The peculiar work of Mathias Hakker has a rare quality. He finds a particular beauty in abandoned buildings, stairways, gardens, ceilings, hallways, galleries and large halls, most of them many decades old.
While some of the architectural photos this Potsdam born photographer captures are magnificent old historical constructions, many are just private homes of everyday people who have left them behind in their lives, forlorn in time and left to ruins.
The photographic work on the perfectly captured deserted buildings has brought Mathias wide acclaim and has been featured in many world magazines. The air of emptiness is strikingly present. Thus, the beauty that is left reminds of times when it had been in full bloom and full of life.
