One woman has just found out a painting she sold for £3,500 two years ago has now been revalued at £2million after scholars discovered it is an original sketch by John Constable.

Valuers from Christie’s auction house had priced the painting at a mere £500 on the theory it was merely an homage to the 1831 masterpiece, Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows by John Constable, which was bought last year by the Tate Gallery for £23.1million.

But having analysed additional brush strokes applied to the painting at a later date, scholars employed by rival auction house, Sotherby’s, have now discovered what they believe to be an original sketch by the famed master in 1830 in preparation for his 1831 work, and determined a value of £2,000,000!
