Wat Rong Khun, better known among foreigners as the White Temple, is an unconventional Buddhist temple in Chiang Rai, Thailand. Designed in 1997, the Thai artist and architect, this magnificent temple – a strange mixture of traditional Thai architecture and surreal elements. The main building is painted white to symbolize the purity of the Buddha and is covered with mosaics of mirrors, sparkling in the sun. Are seen around the complex intricate sculptures of demons, skulls, plaster casts of cut-off heads in the trees, and other bizarre objects.
The temple is still under construction and will change for many years to come. Plans to build nine buildings including a chapel, hermitage, crematorium, monastery hall, lounge sermons, museum, hall and bathroom, which will be based on the area of about 3 acres.
